Wednesday at Boot Camp I had some major coughing going on. I really thought it was from being out late TU at Kole's games and being dehydrated. Well the cough kept getting worse, but I felt fine and never ran a fever. Kevin and Kole were very much disliking my coughing and said I was sick and needed to see a DR. My stubborn self said, no I wasn't! Plus, with our horrible new insurance I didn't want to pay $150ish some to be told it's allergies or a cold. This morning when I woke up, my head was pounding. I decided to entertain the boys and go to a Redi Clinic. It opened at 8:00 and I was the 4th in line. I didn't get seen until 9:45 but found out I have a sinus infection and bronchitis, in addition to being an overachiever with my coughing/barking--as she called it. Since I'm allergic to penicillin, her challenge was trying to find something I could take that wouldn't cause a reaction in the sun. She prescribed 3 antibiotics, 1 of which is a cough medicine in which I'm advised not to even cross the street by myself after taking it.
After I got some food in me, I took the meds and then a nap. Baseball double-header got canceled, so it all worked out. Time to pack and get to bed early. Hopefully this cough will be gone soon--can't run until no more coughing for 24 hours--UGH! Despite this is not how I wanted to begin our Destin vacation, I'm sure in the morning, I'll be feeling much better! Sandy beaches of Florida, bring it on!

Heart of a Champion
This past weekend, Kole's tournament team played again. Unfortunately, his weekend tournament team hasn't won a game yet :(. However, Kole has scored BIG victories! If the team played with as much heart as Kole did, they would be undefeated. He plays with such a LOVE for the game. He's been working extra hard this summer to get even better--going to Boot Camp to get stronger, playing TU nights for high school, attending 2 practices a week for tournament team, playing weekends for tournament team, in addition to the private practices he has with Kev each day. All his extra effort is paying off!
Last night at his high school game, he was so ON!!! He said before we left, "I think tonight's going to be the night!" And, he was right! He had 3 RBIs, 1 walk, and 1 strike-out. 2 of his hits were clearly to the outfield. He didn't make any errors on the field at 2nd base and was clearly being the leader for the team. They won their first double-header game, but lost the 2nd. I wish every child would have the heart of a champion like Kole!

To Game or To Read?
It seems lately that I've been pulled in two directions--do I play games with others on my phone or read? I enjoy doing both, but I think my reading has taken a back seat and I'm becoming one of the kids! So, I've decided I will "game" early in the AM when I wake up and right before I go to bed. If I'm waiting on something in the kitchen, I might game too, but otherwise, I'm reading! So many books to read--some for fun and some to learn from. Not learning much from the games, other than, others are so much smarter than me since they keep beating me!

Quick 24 Hours
Saturday we were to meet Kylie in Livingston at 3:00 and make plans from there. We've only been to Livingston a few times, but I knew there was little to do. So Friday evening, I suggested to Kole and Kevin that we go camping at Lake Livingston. They were both apprehensive since they had gone camping last summer and the heat wasn't much fun! They did both agree though it would be some good family time and Ky would probably enjoy getting away from camp as well, so the reservations were made!
Saturday morning Kev and I pulled all the camping stuff down and made our first Walmart run. Yep, got home and realized a fan probably would be nice, so Kev made a 2nd Walmart run, plus we needed more ice and he needed gas. Our plan was to leave at 12:45 and get set-up before Ky arrived. We had almost everything loaded in the back end of the truck by 11:30, when KABOOOM! Yep, lightning, thunder, and torrential downpour! Kev was in a panic. I suggested we cover the back end with tarps, when he quickly responded the tarps were packed on the BOTTOM of everything--obviously I didn't pack! So, we pulled the van out of the garage and backed the truck in. Maybe the sleeping bags would dry a little?! The rain didn't quit until 1:30, so we got a little bit of a later start than had hoped.
We pulled into camp at 2:45 and Kylie joined us by 3:00. The campgrounds were full! This was the first time we had camped right next to anyone. Tent up, sleeping bags hanging to dry out, snacks started, and sat for about 10 minutes before we were ready to go do something. (After the first air mattress was blown up the air pump no longer worked, so Ky and Kole drove into Walmart and got a new one and surprised us with Sonic drinks. Kev goes to blow up the 2nd air mattress with the air pump and it wouldn't work. Oh, yes, you can imagine how well that went over! Kylie took the pump and got it working!) We decided to go on some trails until dinner. 90 minutes later and a slight detour we made it back to camp. However, I'm thankful for the unplanned detour or we wouldn't have been present to witness a proposal out on a trail. It was sweet and she said YES!
Once we got back to camp we fired up the grill and put on the hamburgers and hotdogs. We started off with 2 cheeseburgers but ended up with only 1. Loved my BURNT hotdog and the flavor of charcoal food as opposed to gas-grilled food. We also had pasta salad and melon, along with our munchies--not stepping on the scale until end of the week!
It was soon 7:00 and the guys went fishing. In the 2 hours they were gone, they caught one. Kylie nicknamed it "Minnow on steroids"--yep, it was that big! While the guys fished, Ky and I had a chance to just talk. She also demonstrated her continued determination at being coordinated/graceful/however you want to phrase it by "swinging up" into her hammock. The campers on both sides of us had their comic relief for the night! I videotaped it and will try to upload it. We sent a copy of the video to Coach Dennis and Uncle Doug. It was priceless.
After a fire was built, we then decided to play 500. It was 9:00 and pretty dark, but we had a lantern for the picnic table. The only problem, the bugs liked the lantern too! So, we moved to the inside of the tent. We were laying on air mattresses with the lantern hanging above us. It was tricky, but we got one hand in. The guys won a 7 bid with only 3 suit cards in their hand. LUCK!!! We then had Smores and sat around the campfire before turning in at 10:30. Kylie and Kev slept on the air mattress by the fan. I slept in a sweatshirt and in a sleeping bag! KJ slept in between Kole and me.
6:00 Kev and I were up and outside. So quiet and relaxing! Once the kids got up, we had breakfast and packed up. Ky left around 9:00 and we left about 30 minutes later. What a great family weekend! Only 2 more weeks until our Florida family vacation!

Aisle Clean-Up Needed
Goodness, what a workout this morning. When we read the board, it didn't look too bad--only 3 rounds. No amounts were listed so I was guessing it was going to be timed stations. Yep, 5 stations, a minute at each with a minute rest after each round (a round being all 5 stations.) Sweat was dripping everywhere! I thought I was going to slip on my own sweat during the box jumps--nasty! Kole was really hurting today--he dominated during conditioning at baseball last night and so all that extra effort took a toll on him this morning.
So, Kev met us out there afterwards so they could work on the fields. I then took the van in to have the oil changed and tires rotated & balanced. They opened at 7:00 and I got there by 7:05, but too late to drop it and wait. They already had several vehicles in for appointments, but they'd get to it sometime today. So I walked a little over a mile home. I felt like I was living the story of Hansel and Gretel, but instead of leaving bread crumbs as my trail, I left a sweat trail! Unfortunately, in Houston, the sweat trail didn't last long!

Baking Blunders
I have always enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. However, it seems these last few years with being so busy with the kids, I haven't had much time to spend in the kitchen, cooking GOOD meals or baking. So, since this was my first REAL week off, I decided to kick up my kitchen experience a notch or two.
Before I went to the grocery store earlier in the week, I asked the guys what kinds of cookies they'd like me to bake. I was baking double batches of everything since the freezer's stockpile was gone! Kole wanted peanut butter blossoms, with a star in the middle, just like Grandma Suddendorf used to make. Well 2 grocery stores later, no chocolate stars. I didn't see what the big deal of using a Hershey's kiss was instead, but I was wrong! If only I could find the chocolate stars to show Kole the ingredients are basically the same. We froze 8 containers of cookies, and saved an additional container to surprise some friends with. Their surprise only lasted a day though as their mom rarely bakes cookies, so it was an extra-special treat!
Today I noticed how "yuck" the bananas were looking, so I decided to bake a banana pie and banana bread. Max had this banana bread that everyone loved, so that was the recipe I made. And for once, I was patient enough with the creme pudding for the pie that it didn't stick to the bottom of my pot.
Just a few minutes ago as I was getting ready to make a ranch chicken dish, I noticed I was out of creme cheese. Thank goodness Kev was going right by Kroger on his way home--crisis averted! However, there may be a new crisis on the horizon--I went to put something in the microwave and there was a cup of melted butter. Hmm, was that to go in the banana bread? I guess we'll see how it tastes in the morning! SHH don't say anything!

WOW! What a Year!
My first year as AP has ended. I think this was by far the fastest year of my life. I learned so much and loved almost every minute of it! The days I didn't like made me search harder to find answers so that I did love every moment.
I thought my old job that every day was a different day and you never knew what to expect; however, this was most definitely true being an AP. I could have my to-do list ready to go each day and never get to one bullet item. ALWAYS EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!!!
The most unexpected blessing for me was working with the "challenging" students. WOW--I never had issues with classroom management when I taught and then being out of a classroom for 10 years, I saw lots of new challenges with classroom management. Out of those classrooms I got to develop relationships with a few challenging students in particular. It was tough, some days I didn't know if I was cut-out for this tough behaviors, but it was the drive to figure out what made these students "tick" that kept me going. 3 students in particular I made lots of gains with and look forward to working with them again next year. End of the week I'm going to write them a letter to keep that relationship built over the summer--although Kev probably won't want me putting my return address!
I feel very fortunate because no matter what job I've had, I've alson enjoyed my job. 2011-2012 was definitely one of my best years! Now, time for R&R before August rolls around and I plan to enjoy every minute of it!
