What a Week!

WOW!  Last week was a whirlwind!

I had originally signed-up for 3 days of boot camp.  I have a meeting every FRI at 7:00 AM and thought I'd be pushing it if I signed up for the 4th day to get there on time.  However, after really enjoying the physical challenge and getting to work by 6:45 M-W, I added an additional day of boot camp.

Friday I was second-guessing myself though.  The entire workout was focused on endurance.  By 1:00, the after-effects had hit me.  I was wiped.  Unsure if it was the workout that wiped me or my body just adjusting to getting up at at 4:20 each morning (which 3/4 of the days it was 3:30 AM that I was up instead--unsure why!)  Left work at 4:00, which I think was the earliest ever!

By 4:30 we were in the truck and heading to A&M.  We took Kylie out to dinner and then toured the Santa Wonderland lights up there.  We've done that for several years, but still enjoyed it.  I know Ky is very anxious to have this semester behind her.  Her 5 weeks off will fly by fast though!  Looking forward to her arriving home on TU.

Saturday I was up earlier than I had hoped, so I took KJ for a 45 minute walk.  Although it was cold out due to the wind, I enjoyed seeing the yard decorations and different morning smells--laundry, bacon, and sweets.  KJ was in heaven as it's been awhile since we went walking.   I then headed out to the baseball field--OMG it was freezing!  Sitting out there in the wide-open fields was not fun.  I guess the boys were so active they didn't notice it.  2 jackets, ear band, gloves, and a blanket wasn't enough.  I don't know how I'm going to survive the Iowa & Michigan temps.  It was 7 degrees there SAT.  That night we went to Sandlot for their XMAS party.   It was a full day of baseball, but wouldn't trade it for anything--love these times!

This morning I went to church and heard the message of JOY.  Sometimes I realize I'm so caught-up in getting everything done I don't take the time to experience the JOY.  I'll work on that this week!

This next week will go by super-fast as we have something going on almost every day at home or work.  However, when this week is over, ONLY 2 MORE WORK DAYS of 2011!

Boot Camp Day 2--You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks

I have a training to go to this AM, so since I have some extra time on my hands this AM, I thought I'd blog quick about Day 2!

OH MY!  was what I said when I got out of bed this morning.  I figured once I quit moving yesterday and last night it would catch up to me.  It was my quads that I felt the most.  Out the door by 4:40.  Supposedly a third person was joining us but that person never showed up this morning, so it was just Anne and me again.  We discussed our ailing bodies as we did warm-up stretches.

Today was a day for working the lower body--great my quads were already hurting me!  More lunges (hmm, why did I always make fun of Kole after he got done with them in conditioning for baseball???) with weights and other new things.  I love that the only thing that was the same today from day 1 was the lunges, yet those were modified with what we did with upper body.  We also pushed/pulled L-frame (too bad there weren't tires our instructor has used at other boot camps!) along with some ab work.  There was one move (leg crawl) that I mentally can't do and it is bugging me!  Either I have too long of a leg or my abs aren't strong enough.  I'm thinking that the margaritas over the years have made an impact greater than I thought.  Oh well, now I have a physical/mental challenge as well!

Brian is so patient with us oldies and is great that Anne and I can laugh at ourselves.  It's been a great first 2 days.  I haven't even minded getting up at 4:20.  I'm just hoping I don't have to chase down any students today, as I'm unsure that I'll be able to catch them--SORE LEGS!

Boot Camp Day 1--DONE!!

When the alarm went off at 4:20 and it was raining outside, I really wanted to stay in bed!  However, I threw my contacts in, grabbed a cereal bar, and 2 bottles of water and was out the door!  I loved listening to the KSBJ Christmas music and liked the 15 minute drive as I never seem to drive anywhere anymore (Kole escorts me everywhere and work is only 5 minutes) so it was nice driving.  If it wouldn't have been raining and in the low 50s, Ky would've called it a "drive with the windows down with the music cranked" type of drive.

When I got to Sandlot, I pulled in behind the instructor's car.  "Marine Corps" was what framed his license plate--GREAT!  And I was the only one there.  Anne arrived right before 5:00 and we warmed up with some basic stretching.  Yes, I was breathing a bit hard after that--I told you I was out of shape!  We then did some lower body work, but mostly abs and arm work.  It was like having our own personal trainer--just the 2 of us!

Throughout the day I felt great!  I kept moving at work and drank lots of water.  There was one point where I sat for aobut  45 minutes and could then "feel it" when I got up, but otherwise, it was great.  Maybe he was just going easy on us the first day so we'd return.

I made it home by 6:20, showered, and was at work by 6:45--love living that close to work!  Love the feeling that I accomplished it!

Am I Crazy?

On Monday I will begin something I never thought I'd do--I'm starting Boot Camp!  YEP, I will never be the same again.  M-W my alarm will go off at 4:20 AM so that I can leave the house by 4:35 and drive to the batting cages where Boot Camp will be held.  The class will be held form 5:00-6:00.  This is going to put a "kink" in my work schedule, as I usually leave for work at 6:00 and now I'll be doing good to get there by 7:00.  As long as I can still walk, it'll all be good.

Now, why, do you say would I do this?  Hmm, I was wondering the same thing this weekend as I purchased a mat and weights.  (3 pounds in both hands does get heavy after awhile!)  Bottom line--I need to take better care of myself physically!  I challenge myself mentally and emotionally every day, not it's time to take on the physical challenge.  I'm going with another baseball mom so we could hold each other accountable.

I think I'll need to bring the laptop downstairs, as I doubt I'll be able to walk upstairs beginning MON!
