Oh, what a great spring break we had. In the past, we've never really done anything during spring break except trying to get caught up around the house and yard. This year was different!
We went camping with the Krolczyk's TU-FRI at Lake Brownwood, a state park north of Austin. We rented a cabin, as we wanted to be sure weather wouldn't spoil our fun, nor Kevin's back give out if sleeping on an air matress. We arrived Tuesday afternoon, just a little before 3:00 and discovered there was no Verizon service in this part of Texas. We stayed in the Fisherman's Lodge which was close to the lake. We unpacked and just hung out on TU. We grilled pork loin and then had to microwave it to get it done before breakfast on WED! (I know a microwave--We weren't roughing it too much!) The girls played a game of Taboo TU night while the guys braved the cold in building a fire.
WED Kev and Kole had gone fishing before the rest of the cabin started stirring. No luck with fishing. When they got back we decided to go on one of the trails. The trails weren't clearly marked, but we discovered our own paths and even went walking on the shore of the lake. Tina took some pictures of us on a big rock that we had to climb to get to. (While getting off the big rock Kev managed to rip a hole in his shorts, which caused a great deal of laughter for everyone.) We continued on the trail, finding lots of mud, cactus, wild plum trees--beautiful aroma, and wonderful views. The 2 mile trail one way I think was a little "off", maybe it was due to us creating our own trails???? When we got back we ate lunch and then watched the kids hit baseballs on the parks baseball field. The kids did prove they are in much better shape than their parents! A little more fishing that afternoon while the girls read their books. That night we grilled and microwaved steaks. Nummy meal! We then built a fire and ate smores.
TH morning the guys were very much into fishing while the girls slept in. They didn't quit until 11:00 so we decided to eat lunch before venturing on our next hiking adventure. The 2nd trail was 1.5 miles one way; however, much better marked and somewhat flatter. We enjoyed seeing the other side of the lake and the different cabins, along with fireplaces and benches that were along the trail. Again, we saw wonderful views of the lake. On this trail we played the alphabet game "Here's what I saw on the trail": Avery, bugs, cabin 4, eaves, fern, greenery, heater... (OK, I don't recall all the rest!) The guys fished some more that afternoon while the girls got burned reading their books and enjoying the warm sunshine just chilling. We roadtripped it that night 20 miles into town to eat Mexican. Nummy food, but they didn't serve margaritas. When we got back to the cabin the guys fished some more, the girls made smores and played Yahtzee.
FRI morning we got up, packed, and got left a little before 10:00. I think everyone was tired! Oh, but what a good time. There was never an agenda, it was just "Hey, let's do..." We all just wanted to hang with each other, not feeling like we had to do anything special. It was the spending time together that made it special. It's those memories that we'll cherish forever.
