House Divided

I really only thought our house was divided because Kole likes UT and Kylie likes A&M. Today, I discovered we are divided in yet another way--weight gain/loss.

We've always known Kole has been underweight. He has been eating lots of ice cream and growing tall, and averaging a pound a week weight gain. He feels confident he'll be as tall as Kevin if not taller. We'll see!

Today Ky had a physical for camp. She has surpassed me in height, now 5'7" compared to my 5'5.5". Then her DR (who is new and both Ky and I highly love!) said she's on the low side for her weight due to her body mass index and the amount of swimming she does. It would help her to gain some weight also! I'm thinking 115 is a good weight, but she should weigh more. Her DR did say she's usually giving the "lose weight" not "gain weight" speech to teenagers. (She also has to take fish oil to try to reduce her triglicerides (SP?) which is possibly contributing to her high cholesterol.) This only comes in swallow gelcap form which Ky has an intense gag reflex, so the next few days should prove interesting trying to master that.

So, Kev and I are to help our kids GAIN weight, while we're trying to LOSE weight. Another house divided! Any suggestions?

There are actually chew-able fish oil caplets as well as a liquid form (that she could put in a flavored drink). I know because Dan also takes fish oil for his triglycerides! Though you probably won't find these at a typical pharmacy (CVS Or Walgreens), check out a nutrition store like GNC. I checked and they have some online to order.

I don't blame her for not wanting to take the gelcaps...they are HUGE! One way to get over the gag reflex (I have a terrible one) is to take the pills while drinking out of a straw. The "sucking" forces the pill down very quickly. Dr. Kiesau taught me that one a LONG time ago!
