We left for Dubuque Friday morning. After taking the "scenic route" (that error could be blamed on me as I was reading a book and not paying attention, plus get a little car sick at that point) we arrived at Amy's house before lunch. Leah got to ride back to Dubuque with us, since Amy went back on Thursday. We enjoyed hearing her sing to Taylor Swift. Although she had heavy eyes and big sighs, she never did fall asleep. Amy grilled delicious burgers that had different marinades. Even more inspiration to get back into my cooking/baking habits after a 1.5 year hiatus! The guys went golfing, while we ventured to the pool. Amy and I watched Leah and Kylie. Although Ky really wanted to teach her how to swim, Leah enjoyed someone knew to play with. It was good cousin time! By the time we got back to the house, Leah was ready for a nap, so Ky and I headed to the mall. Kev's back to school shopping is done! After Leah's nap and the golf outing, we met the guys for dinner at a Mexican restraunt. Dan had ordered a 24 ounce margarita and was on a roll! We enjoyed hearing their golf stories and watching Leah jam to the mariachi (sp?) band.
Saturday my dad met the boys for golf outing number 2. Kole enjoyed playing the exploding golf ball trick on my day. My mom came down later in the afternoon. About 3:15ish we headed to the river for the airshow and fireworks. We camped our stuff out on a hill. There was a big shade tree close by that some of us enjoyed while the kids (big and old) tossed a football around and kicked a soccer ball. The air show went for 3 hours, with the fireworks beginning around 9:45. I don't know how anyone can't feel a hint of patriotism after watching the fireworks and hearing patriotic music accompanying the fireworks. Although it's hard to beat fireworks shooting up over the Washington Monument, it was a great show. We were back to the van by 10:30, but didn't make it back to Amy's until midnight. That's VERY LATE for the Suddendorfs!
This morning we slept in until 9:00. We've enjoyed a lazy day (except for those competing in the WII challenge) of R&R, which was definitely needed. Up early in the AM for our drive to Michigan.
