Ode to Our Daughter

Prior to Kylie coming home for winter break, I had been warned by several that the first time college kids come home for an extended break, it isn't always good--they leave a mess, they come and go as they please, they go out when you are going to bed, they correct you on how you do laundry--basically, they are their own beast because they know everything now!  Even with all the warnings, I didn't believe it!

The first test would come when Ky was home and declared she was having a baking day.  WOULD THE KITCHEN BE CLEAN WHEN I GOT HOME???  Yes, it was.  The dreaded "leave a mess" theory didn't pan out.

The second test was heading to Clear Lake and a visit to TYES.  Nope, she didn't come and go as she pleased, rather she checked with us for time-frames and made sure it wouldn't interfere with anything we had planned.  When wanting a friend to spend an extended few days with us, she checked in first.  The dreaded "come and go as they please" theory didn't pan out either.

And, as you can guess, neither did the other theories.  So, why an ode to our daughter?  Because she's amazing!  However, I'm unsure of the "rules" for writing an ode, so it'll be more like free verse!

Kylie is an amazing lady.
She came home from college more mature thatn when she left in August, and she was mature then!
She tries her hardest to balance studying, friends, Bibly study, church, and water polo.
When a friend hurts her though, her heart becomes toughened and she wants to close them out.
She is so patient with her brother, even when she doesn't think she is.
Spending time with all of her extended family is all she wanted for Christmas--she got it!
Her heart was opened up immensely on her trip to Honduras.  It will leave a lasting impact on her.
Finally, when I said, "If you see something you like, I'll buy it for you." she let me!
She never wants to lose sight of her creative-side--hence the 365 photo/journaling challenge!
She pulled out of the driveway with mixed emotions.
Kylie is an amazing lady.

Love, Mom
