PROMISES

PROMISES--You do what you say you will do.

PROMISES seems like a word that only kids say--"pinky promise".  Rarely do adults say "I promise."  I do say "You have my word."  What I find interesting is that I make PROMISES to others but rarely to myself.  I set my goals each day and love the feeling of shrinking that "to do" list--maybe those are my PROMISES to myself to get the job done!

I think PROMISES are more than that though.  My wedding vows are a promise, expectations for my children are a promise, promises are bigger than the "pinky promise."  Breaking a promise can seem like such a disappointment.  Not something I want to do, but sometimes it happens, not on purpose, but by fault.  The one thing I don't want to do is avoid making a promise for fear I can't keep it.  I try to be a person of my word, whether I make a PROMISE or not.  And that, is something I'm proud of!
