May Challenge: Day 10 Best Friend #3

May 10, 2011

Dear Kylie,

While at Fiest, you met Ashley. If I remember correctly you were in Mrs. Flores' class together in third grade. You seemed to hit it off right away. When we were looking for a new home, there was one for sale right next to them that we looked at. Both you girls were hoping we'd choose that home!

It seemed like once we moved to Copper Village, you two were inseparable. If she wasn't at our house, you were at hers. Their family became second to ours. When they'd go to Oklahoma, we'd watch their dogs. When we were gone, they'd watch KJ. When the hurricane came, we went with them to Dallas and stayed at relatives with them.

And then high school came and all the drama that goes with high school. Swimming was your focus and cheer was hers. Unfortunately it became too difficult for each of you to pursue your own interests and maintain a friendship. Hurtful comments were made which severed the ties. And, unfortunately, there was no going back.

I still hope that time will heal the wounds and both of you at some point (it may even be at A&M) will be able to say, "Sorry" and move on. Real friendship like that doesn't come often in life. Yes, friendships change, but we all change at times, and learning how to deal with that change is a forever life learning experience.

Girl, the one thing about you is that you wear your heart heavy with you at all times. That's not a bad thing at all as it shows your compassion. I sometimes wonder, do you protect your heart by not letting others get close to it for fear of being hurt?
